Terms and Conditions

Who is eligible to enter?

  • All full or part time students enrolled at UK colleges on undergraduate, postgraduate and Higher Education courses (HND, BTEC, BA, BSc, MA, MSc, MD or equivalent).
  • Entrants may be individuals or part of a team (teams must be no more than three people).
  • Entrants may only make one submission.

The Prize

First Prize: Guaranteed work placement for Shelf08 winner/s at a leading London creative agency.
All finalists invited to the London Shelf08 Awards will have the chance to meet and present their work to leading Creative Directors and other industry experts.

How to enter

Stage 1 – Course tutor to register college at www.shelfawards.co.uk/register.html
Stage 2 – Brief emailed to course tutors
Stage 3 – Course tutors select which work to enter according to details in brief
Stage 4 – Submitted work judged by a panel of Creative Directors for shortlist
Stage 5 – Shortlisted candidates attend The Shelf evening where the winners are decided by Creative Directors and other industry experts on the night

All entrants must come from a registered college. All college tutors must register by 11.59pm (GMT) on Friday 29th February 08. On completion of college registration, students will later receive the brief from their course tutors. All work submitted by students for the Shelf08 awards must be received by 11.59pm (GMT) on Friday 9th May 08.

What happens after entry?

Work will be processed and prepared for judging. Entries will be judged by Creative Directors and industry experts between Monday 12th to Friday 16th May 08.

Announcement of results

The shortlist of finalists will be posted at www.shelfawards.co.uk on Friday 23rd May 08.

What happens next?

All entrants who have been short listed will automatically receive an invitation to The Shelf08 Awards, London finalist event. Both participating students and their tutor are invited to attend alongside the judges and sponsors plus high profile creative professionals within the industry.

On the night

Those who make the final shortlist will then display a wider selection of work from their overall portfolio at The Shelf08 awards evening. Guests on the night, made up of Creative Directors and other industry experts, will judge the final winners.

Safety of work

While every effort is made to ensure the safety of all work entered, The Shelf Awards does not accept responsibility for the loss or damage of this work under any circumstances. It is the responsibility of each entrant to be aware of these procedures. You are strongly advised to make copies of your work before entering.

Use of work

By entering work the entrant grants The Shelf Awards and its sponsors the irrevocable right to use the work to promote the Shelf Awards, and the sponsors' involvement in these awards, as The Shelf Awards and the relevant sponsors see fit. The entrant understands and agrees that neither The Shelf Awards nor the sponsors shall be required to make any payment to the entrant or any third party in respect of such promotional usage. By legal contract, all sponsors of the Shelf Awards recognise that the intellectual property of any work submitted in response to a brief belongs to the entrant. Should any sponsor wish to commission or use an entry then The Shelf Awards will facilitate initial communication between the sponsor and the entrant to ensure that the entrant’s interests are protected and managed suitably. The Shelf Awards however advises all entrants to seek advice on intellectual property rights before submitting work.

The decision of the judges is final. We reserve the right to make alterations to the rules and regulations. The terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
